Research on absenteeism in primary school shows that children who are chronically absent in kindergarten have lower performances in reading, mathematics, and general knowledge in the 1st grade.  Experts say this is a largely "overlooked" issue, with other research suggesting that high school dropouts are more likely to be chronically absent in the earlier grades.
