Race, gender at forefront of Amendment 46 Debate
The Denver Post September 19, 2008
Amendment 46 would prohibit government agencies and public schools from considering race and gender in their hiring, admissions and contract processes. Some supporters of the amendment contend that affirmative action measures that consider race and gender are no longer necessary, while others cite a need for more creative ways to consider broader socio-economic factors. Opponents of the Amendment that it will unwind important efforts to increase the number of underrepresented students in colleges and universities and jeopardize race and gender-based programs and scholarships.
