DPS places 35 schools on probation
Rocky Mountain News September 15, 2008
Denver Public Schools used a new ranking system to identify schools that are "distinguished," "meeting expectations," and "probationary." The rating system looked a variety of factors and is the first in Colorado and one of the first in the nation to emphasize student growth from one year to the next. Schools identified as distinguished will have more flexibility in curriculum and teachers and administrators will be eligible for bonuses. Schools on probation will have stricter supervision and be eligible for grants up to $100,000.
