Rhee seeks tenure-pay swap for teachers
Washington Post July 3, 2008
District of Columbia Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee is proposing a plan that would give teachers the opportunity to earn significatly higher pay in exchange for giving up tenure and seniority rights. Mid-level teachers who opt into the system would have the opportunity to earn over $100,000 per year, compared to the $62,000 that they currently earn. The teachers opting into the plan would receive annual reviews and could continue in their positions only if they passed evaluations and increased student test scores.
