Rogers, John

John Rogers is Assistant Professor in the Urban Schooling division of the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at UCLA. He studies strategies for engaging urban youth, community members, and educators in equity-focused school reform.  Dr. Rogers draws extensively on the work of John Dewey to explore the meaning of and possibilities for democratic education today.  He teaches in the Principal Leadership Institute where his focus is on democratic leadership and the relationship between school leaders and community members.  Dr. Rogers is the co-author (with Jeannie Oakes) of the recently published Learning Power: Organizing for Education and Justice.
